The Supreme Court is the last court in the country. It hears appeals from the High Courts, matters that come to it directly under the Constitution, and reviews of its own decisions. Its principal seat is Islamabad, and it keeps branch registries in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta so that a matter does not always have to travel to the capital.

What a firm has to track
A firm with a matter here is usually waiting rather than appearing: leave has to be granted before an appeal is heard at all, and the gap between one date and the next is measured in months rather than weeks. That is exactly the kind of matter a diary loses. The date has to be recorded the day it is given, the registry it was given at has to be recorded with it, and somebody has to be told who is travelling — a hearing at the Karachi registry is a different arrangement from one at Islamabad.
